5 Ways to Lighten the Mother Load

Motherhood is so hard. The mental load, the tasks, the yelling, the laundry, the cooking, the planning, the lack of sleep…it’s just a lot.

Let’s talk about 5 ways we can lift the mother load a little to make it lighter:

  1. Ask for help. Yes, you can do it. No, it doesn’t make you less of a Mom or weak. If you’re drowning, ask for that life raft, sister.
  2. Start saying no. What can you take off your daily/weekly list? Do your kids need to do all the sports/activities? Do you have to say yes to every volunteer opportunity or class party?
  3. Get quiet. So many Moms tell me how having even 10 minutes of quiet time feels like a huge luxury. When we make time for quiet, we can see what we can’t see when it’s loud. Pray, read, meditate…whatever will help you.
  4. Do it the easy way. I just spoke to a Mom this week who subscribes to emeals.com (not an affiliate link), puts the grocery list into her local grocery store’s website and gets her groceries delivered. Talk about #winning!? What can you start doing the easy way?
  5. Have gratitude – we are managing blessings. Our pastor just talked about this last Sunday. Gratitude is the only way to stop comparing and complaining. I read these profound words from Lysa TerKeurst’s book “Unglued” that I will never forget:“The rhythm of motherhood will always be set to a slightly chaotic beat. I can be rattled to the core by the unpredictability of it all. Or I can choose to laugh, dance, and remember I’m managing blessings.”

I hope this is helpful and not stressful. I am still in the same boat with you, Mama. We are in this together.
