Since we’re all cooking what seems like 24/7 these days, I thought we would do a self-care tip about meal planning. Especially since our April box is themed “Mama Needs a Meal Plan”! By the way, TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO ORDER! It ships on Friday!
So let’s take the guessing out of dinner, shall we? Pick a day (I usually try do this on Sunday) and sit down with your family. Go around and ask what everyone might want for dinner!
Since we are trying to keep grocery shopping at a minimum, use your fridge and pantry as your “store”. Anything else you need, order it on your favorite grocery delivery app or grab it at the store if you can.
Meal planning this way is helpful for many reasons:
- It gives your kids a say in what they eat but you still get to control what you cook! For example, let’s say your son asks for “breakfast for dinner”. Sneak some healthy things in there! Eggs, fruit, spinach in a smoothie, use whole wheat flour instead of AP flour. There are so many options here.
- It gives your kids ownership. Have them help you make the meal they asked for! You’d be surprised how capable they are. With supervision, they can chop veggies and fruit (depending on the age), stir, whisk and measure!
- It gives your brain a break. Listen, your mental capacity can only handle so much and I know there’s already a lot going on. My brain feels full all the time. Let other people think for you!
- It sets the expectations for the week. Now you don’t need to hear the same question everyday: “Mom, what’s for dinner?” You just direct them to the fridge or chalkboard or calendar! Boom, done.
