I want you to picture a carafe of hot coffee (or tea, whatever you fancy). It’s filled to the brim and ready to be poured into cups.
That carafe should be you – filled up and ready to take on each day. The cups represent your family, your job, and the things you need to accomplish. When you pour and pour all day long without filling up that carafe, you will be totally empty.
Have you felt this way recently? I know we all have, especially with this global pandemic happening. This pouring and emptying can be a vicious cycle. But there are times that this cycle is inevitable.
Like right now when we might be working at home + homeschooling + laundry + cooking (so much cooking) + anxiety/fear of unknown. All of this may make you stuck in this cycle and your self-care, your carafe is on the back burner.
Too often, we leave it there. And before we know it, we are burned out, bone dry and about to crack.
But, if you look at self-care through the lens of “I NEED to do this so I can be a better Mama today”, then you can be intentional about how you go about making that happen. Then you can realize that you can’t pour from an empty cup.
So how can you fill up your cup and remain guilt-free? There are so.many.ways. I’ll give you some ideas!
- Listen to a podcast while you’re doing dishes, folding laundry, exercising or taking a bath! The Mama Needs Podcast is a fantastic option! I also love The Popcast, The Next Right Thing Podcast or The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey.
- Get in community. Of course we can’t actually get together but we can virtually! We have a great facebook group for any Mama who is looking for camaraderie and commiseration!
